Courses & Workshops
2 day workshop May 19-20, 2011
Comparison and annotation of bacterial organisms
Objectives
With advances in sequencing technology, multiple strains of bacterial organisms are being sequenced and studied. Quickly extracting the most relevant information requires new, comparative, analytical approaches at the genomic, proteic and metabolic levels.
In this two-day workshop, you’ll learn the theory and have significant hands-on practice in the practical application of these new approaches, making use of Genostar's Metabolic Pathway Builder software and MicroB database.
Program
Day 1:
- Acquisition and visualization of a collection of contigs
- Assembly using a reference sequence
- Identification of specific regions on one or multiple strains
- Prediction and validation of coding regions (genes and RNAs)
- Characterization of biological functions of gene products
- Transfer of annotations - genomic, proteic and metabolic
Day 2:
- Introduction to genomic, proteic and metabolic databases and the advantages of MicroB database
- Elements for genome comparison: homologies, conserved syntenies
- Prediction of catalytic functions
- Comparative and differential metabolic analyses
- Mapping & visualization of gene epression data on genomic and metabolic maps
- Analysis of co-reguated genes
